Calendar Songs

We are all about singing things in our house to remember things. I put the spelling of both my girls' names to tunes and they knew them by the time they were 3 or 4. I say I'm going to be singing and dancing the periodic table of elements. Can't you just imagine....2 taps+4 flaps, "That's Helium...atomic weight of 4". Anyway, here is a list of our calendar songs to help my girls learn to spell the months of the year. I got a lot of them from Ms. Meacham's website but some of them I came up with all by myself (betcha can't tell which ones I wrote!).

January
(Tune: Auld Lang Sine)
J - A - N - U - A - R - Y!
The first month of the year
Oh January you bring with you
A Happy New Year too!

February
(tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
F-E-B-R-U-A-R-Y
February, February,
Spell it now with me:
F-E-B-R-U-A-R-Y
February!

March
(Tune: Old MacDonald Had A Farm)
In the spring there is a month,
M-A-R-C-H
And in that month we have some fun,
M-A-R-C-H
With a shamrock here…
And a leprechaun there…
Here a pinch, there a pinch,
Everywhere a pinch, pinch,
In the spring there is a month,
M-A-R-C-H

April
(tune: The More We Get Together)
Oh, A-P-R-I-L,
It’s April, it’s April,
Oh, A-P-R-I-L,
It’s April, my friends.
When green leaves are showing,
And flowers are growing.
Oh, A-P-R-I-L,
It’s April, my friends!

May
(tune of She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain)
M-A-Y spells May, can’t you see?
M-A-Y spells May, can it be?
M-A-Y spells May,
We can spell it everyday,
M-A-Y spells May, yes, sirree!

June
(tune of Baa, Baa, Black Sheep)
J-u-n-e, that spells June.
J-u-n-e, summer comes soon!

July
(tune: America the Beautiful)
J-U-L-Y
J-U-L-Y
That's how we spell July
Its summertime
and hot outside
July, July, July
J-U-L-Y
that spells July
Prime hurricane time
Let's hope that we don't
ever have a Category Five!

August
(tune: Bingo)
The month of August is so hot
We love the sunny weather.
A – U – G – U – S - T
A – U – G – U – S - T
A – U – G – U – S - T
Let's sing this song together.

September
(Tune: If You’re Happy & You Know It)
SEP-TEM-BER
SEP-TEM-BER
If you love the sunny weather,
Then let’s spell it all together…

October
(tune: Found A Peanut)
Spell October,
Spell October,
Spell October now with me.
OCT-O-BER
OCT-O-BER

November
(Tune: I’m A Little Teapot)
NOVEM-BER
That spells November,
the eleventh month.
NOVEM-BER
Won’t you spell it now just once?

December
(Tune: Jingle Bells)
DEC-EMB-E-R
December is the Christmas month
When Jesus Christ was born.
DEC-EMB-E-R
December is the Christmas month
When Jesus Christ was born.

I just sang a few of the ones that I wrote to my friend on the phone. She seemed more amused than anything else and mentioned something about her hubby could give me some help with the lyrics. How very impertinent!

I couldn't tell either. I liked them all. Maybe you're just as sick as your mom.

Ginger, I deleted my first comment b/c I want my blog to remain obscure...then realized it is now defunct.

(Is there a way to comment w/o having a blog? Is there a way to email you?)

Here's my comment:

Ginger,
I'm new to your blog, and have some questions about your workboxes. I LOVE the black drawer thing you transitioned to, but am not sure how to fit everything into 6 boxes??? Can you please elaborate on this?

Also, is there a way to email you?

Thanks for all you share!
Blessings,
Beth

Sure! Just post something with an email address and I will reply but the last 2 posts were "no reply" so I have no way of knowing your email addy to reply! I'm not sure if it is in your Google settings or what but I get them from some and not others. Anybody else know?

Ginger,
If you don't mind, set your comment section to "moderate" first...then I will make a comment with my email, you can see it and then deny my comment....make sense??? Then you could just reset back to no moderation...
Would that work for you?

Blessings,
Beth

In the meantime...can you please tell me how you use just 6 "boxes" for your system?

Thanks so much,
Beth

Beth,
OK...done. You can comment now. Whew... I don't know why it isn't displaying emails. Sometimes they come through and then other times it just says "noreply blogger" or some such.

Anyway...on the boxes. Did you see my post with the daily tags? Are you using My Father's World? This is what I have come up with but I have had so many comments and questions coupled with the fact that I have changed things slightly. I will try to post more on them in detail. But in a nutshell (and if you go to this post http://ginger-snap-shots.blogspot.com/2009/08/if-at-first-you-dont-succeed.html you will see that I use "Work Together" tags for a lot of our group activities and I just don't put that stuff in a workbox. I have thought about putting it in workbox drawers for me though! :-) Does that help any?
